La « réfléxivité » anthropologique, qu'est-ce que c'est (ou qu'est-ce que c'était)? Une formalisation méthodologique

Dans cette étude monographique, je propose d'envisager la réfléxivité comme une definition coordinatrice qui a survécu à l'anthropologie postmoderne et au système de trois crises qui la caractérise: crise de la représentation ethnographique; crise du réalisme scientifique; crise de l'autorité exercée par l'anthropologue. Je suggère par ailleurs que la réfléxivité, comprise dans un de ses sens particuliers, pourrait être recontextualisée de façon à représenter un substitut de l'expérience. A ce titre, elle constitue un outil bien meilleur que la méthode comparative; elle a d’ailleurs déjà permis de réaliser l'ancien rêve de l'anthropologie en tant que science (bien que la réalisation de ce rêve soit désormais superflue).
La présente étude fait partie d'une série de textes qui visent à reconstruire et à formaliser sur le plan méthodologique les concepts de l'anthropologie postmoderne; il s’agit des concepts, qui, affirme-t-on, ne sauraient être formalisés. L'anthropologie réfléxive est devenue une science postmoderne parce qu'elle n'a pas hésité à avouer qu'elle représentait un art expérimental. Or, la question qui se pose à présent, c’est de savoir: qui est prêt à le comprendre, à le financer et l'appliquer?
C'est pourtant grâce à l'intégration progressive de la réfléxivité au coeur même de la discipline, que l'anthropologie a pu devenir une science dans le sens le plus conservateur du terme. Aussi les réactions anti-postmodernes, exprimées dans les débats menés autour de l'an 2000 et relancés dans la présente publication, ne sont-elles pas fondées sur le plan méthodologique; elles ne bénéficient pas, non plus, d'une justification pragmatique. La réfléxivité peut nous être utile, et ne pas nous porter préjudice, même si on adopte un point de vue traditionnel sur la théorie et la méthode. Tout ce qui nous reste à faire, c'est de l'articuler de telle sorte qu'elle puisse être appliquée même par les défenseurs des approches méthodologiques traditionnelles.
