Le monde à l’envers ? Le phénomène des inhumations atypiques dans l’Antiquité tardive

Résumé

Les inhumations atypiques dans les nécropoles représentent un phénomène attesté sur presque tous les continents et à travers toutes les périodes historiques. Les cas abordés dans ce texte appartiennent à l’Antiquité tardive, souvent perçue comme une période turbulente et charnière, dans le passage de l’Antiquité au Moyen âge, au cours de laquelle se produisent d’importants changements sociaux, économiques et religieux. Cette étude présente des cas attestés dans l’espace du Bas-Empire romain, en examinant les contextes dans lesquels ils apparaissent et sont interprétés, ainsi qu’un aperçu des critères utilisés pour qualifier une inhumation d’atypique, et des interprétations locales variées du phénomène. L’objectif de l’article était de systématiser les données disponibles afin qu’elles puissent servir de base à l’interprétation des inhumations atypiques dans l’Antiquité tardive sur le territoire de la Serbie. Comme ce sujet a rarement fait l’objet de l’analyse dans l’archéologie serbe, nous avons considéré indispensable de proposer un tel aperçu détaillé.
