U ovom radu izloženi su savremeni kongitivistički pristupi evoluciji religijskih verovanja. Različiti oblici uverenja, ili "oblici religioznosti", nastaju kao adaptivni odgovor na različite evolutivne faktore (biološke, socio-političke, kulturne i dr.). S druge strane, religije širom sveta takođe sadrže nezanemariv broj zajedničkih karakteristika, koje isto tako mogu biti objašnjene evolutivnim principima.
