Материјална култура у Херодотовом делу: између сећања и текста

У свом вишеслојном и сложеном делу Херодот из Халикарнаса спомиње велики број остатака материјалне културе различите врсте. За те материјалности су, по правилу, везане одређене изоловане приче из прошлости које отац историје уклапа у свој наратив и налази им место и намену у своме делу као целини. С обзиром на то да се те материјалности и приче везане за њих јављају у различитим друштвеним и културним контекстима, у раду ћемо указати на њихове политичке и идеолошке импликације у односу на друштво које их чува и преноси. Међутим, ни сам Херодот није био ослобођен културних и идеолошких оквира и перспектива, што је дошло до посебног изражаја у његовом опису других народа – Египћана, Скита и Персијанаца – које је покушавао да приближи својој хеленској публици и њеном културно-идеолошком оквиру. Сходно томе, у другом делу рада ћемо указати на значај и улогу материјалне културе у контексту Херодотовог приказа Другог.
