Apstrakt

Rad pruža pregled „svojstveno američkog žanra“ – američke jeremijade, čiji su koreni u puritanskoj političkoj propovedi a koja, uz istorijske i kulturne modifikacije, istrajava do danas. Ovaj pregled, kao i većina studija ove retoričke forme, zasniva se na radu Sakvana Berkoviča koji ju je i utemeljio kao žanr i ponudio do sada najiscrpniju interpretaciju njene strukture i značenja. Američka jeremijada ima zadatak da homogenizuje američku zajednicu, te da je usmeri i održi na zajedničkom nacionalnom zadatku, što se ogleda u njenoj tročinskoj strukturi: podsećanje na ideal/idealno stanje zajednice, kuđenje trenutne zabludelosti, afirmisanje zadatka i vizije progresa. Kako prema Berkoviču američka jeremijada, uprkos istorijskim i društvenim promenama, održava kulturnu hegemoniju simbola Amerike, potonja istraživanja ispituju ovu tezu na primerima političkih govora, javnih obraćanja, američkih filmova, itd., kroz koncepte moderne sekularne jeremijade, istorijske, afro-američke, filmske, i gotovo bez izuzetka održavaju taj simbol živim i zdravim.
