Stari Egipat u našem kulturnom nasleđu?

Inspiracija Egiptom se ispoljavala kroz upotrebu egipatskih motiva u umetnostima i popularnoj kulturi 19. i 20. veka, kao i kroz prisustvo nenaučnih tumačenja starog Egipta, koja su se u velikoj meri temeljila na renesansnim. Brojnost i raznolikost materijalnih i nematerijalnih svedočanstava ove opčinjenosti najveće su u zemljama u kojima je, osim rano ispoljene podrške institucionalnom negovanju egiptologije, postojao ekonomski jak obrazovani sloj građanstva (zemlje Zapadne i Srednje Evrope, SAD), ali je odjeka bilo i van njih. Opčinjenost javnosti starim Egiptom ne jenjava nastankom egiptologije, označenim dešifrovanjem hijeroglifskog pisma 1822. godine, niti njenim razvojem. Do pred kraj 20. veka egiptolozi su se retko bavili predistorijom svoje nauke i ograničavali su se pre svega na kritički pristup antičkim izvorima i na beleženje pokušaja da se hijeroglifsko pismo i funkcija piramida protumače. Tek je porast značaja studija recepcije u srodnim disciplinama podstakao uključivanje egiptologa u istraživanja fascinacije Egiptom, što je doprinelo promeni statusa različitih oblika ispoljavanja ove opčinjenosti, „egiptomanije“ – oni postaju deo kulturnog nasleđa koje se registruje, dokumentuje, obnavlja, čuva i proučava. Istraživanja ove vrste su u Srbiji u samom začetku. Ovakva ispitivanja s jedne strane dopunjavaju znanja o rasprostranjenosti, manifestacijama i ulogama interesovanja za Egipat, neomeđenog nacionalnim ili političkim granicama. S druge strane, postojanje kulturnog nasleđa koje je u vezi sa širim evropskim viđenjima starog Egipta – kratki iskazi o starom Egiptu kod Jeroteja Račanina, spisi poput „Kandora“ Atanasija Stojkovića, korišćenje egipatskih motiva u arhitektonskoj plastici, nastanak malih privatnih kolekcija, da pomenem neke starije primere – pokazuje da istraživanje recepcije Egipta može doprineti poznavanju istorije i razumevanju složenosti kulturnog života na teritoriji današnje Srbije.
